Suns Overcome Early Hornets Surge in Phoenix, Winning 111-99 and Ending 10-Game Road Streak

Charlotte’s early pace fades as Phoenix closes stronger on March 8

The Charlotte Hornets’ prolonged run of road success ended Sunday night, March 8, in Phoenix, where the Suns recovered from an early deficit to secure a 111-99 win and snap Charlotte’s 10-game road winning streak. Charlotte led after the first quarter (30-28), but Phoenix steadily shifted control across the middle periods and finished with a decisive fourth quarter (30-22).

The result halted what had been the NBA’s longest active road winning streak. Charlotte’s previous road loss came on January 17 at Golden State, and the 10-game stretch represented one of the league’s most notable away-court runs this season.

Booker’s production at the line and in playmaking set the tone

Devin Booker led Phoenix with 30 points and 10 assists. His scoring profile underscored the shape of the game: he went 1-for-6 from three-point range but converted all 15 of his free-throw attempts, repeatedly generating points as the Hornets struggled to keep him out of the paint and off the line.

Phoenix also received major scoring support from Collin Gillespie and Jalen Green, who scored 24 points apiece. Rasheer Fleming added 16 points off the bench, including four three-pointers, helping Phoenix maintain perimeter pressure as the game progressed.

Hornets’ first-half contributions didn’t carry through

LaMelo Ball led Charlotte with 22 points. Miles Bridges scored 16, Kon Knueppel had 15, and Brandon Miller added 11 points—all of Miller’s scoring came in the first half, reflecting the Hornets’ difficulty sustaining their offensive output after halftime.

At the break, Phoenix held a narrow 60-58 lead, with Green scoring 20 in the first half and Booker adding 14. After halftime, Phoenix’s advantage grew as Charlotte’s scoring dipped to 19 points in the third quarter, setting up a closing stretch in which the Suns were able to separate.

Injuries and scheduling context shape the next steps

Phoenix played without starters Dillon Brooks (hand fracture) and Mark Williams (foot fracture). Reserve Grayson Allen also missed the game with a sore right knee. Despite those absences, the Suns left the night with a fourth win in five games.

  • Hornets record at the time: 32-33 (18-16 away).
  • Suns record at the time: 37-27 (22-13 home).

Charlotte’s loss in Phoenix marked the first defeat of its four-game road trip.

Charlotte’s schedule continues Tuesday in Portland, while Phoenix begins a road-heavy stretch Tuesday in Milwaukee, with the Suns’ win over the Hornets coming in their final home game before six straight away contests.
