Public Health Advisory: Measles Community Spread in Maricopa County

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has issued an urgent health advisory following the confirmation of community spread of measles within the region. As of late January 2026, health officials have identified several exposure sites in the Gilbert area, including local fitness centers and retail hubs. Residents who visited EoS Fitness on South Val Vista Drive, the Target on East Warner Road, or the Sam's Club on North Gilbert Road during the mid-January period are advised to monitor for symptoms through February 5, 2026.

Health officials recommend that healthcare providers consider measles in the differential diagnosis for any unvaccinated individuals presenting with fever and a rash. In response to the local outbreak, the MCDPH, in alignment with CDC guidance, is recommending early MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccinations for infants aged 6 to 11 months. Residents are encouraged to verify their vaccination status to help curb the spread of this highly infectious disease.

The Phoenix City Council has scheduled a subcommittee meeting for the Economic Development and the Arts Committee on Monday, January 26, 2026. Infrastructure Alert: Loop 303 Construction and Transit Planning

Major infrastructure improvements are set to commence this week as part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan. The $129 million Loop 303 Improvement Project, focusing on the interchange between Interstate 17 and 51st Avenue, is scheduled to begin operations by late January. This project will add direct freeway-to-freeway ramps and widen Loop 303 to three lanes in each direction to accommodate growing traffic demands in North Phoenix.

Additionally, a new transit-oriented development (TOD) planning contract is officially effective as of January 26, 2026. This two-year initiative will focus on land use and infrastructure investments along the Main Line light rail corridor, specifically targeting the ReinventPHX and 19 North communities to support affordable housing and increased ridership.
