Official City Roundup: Measles Health Advisory and Public Meeting Schedule

Public Health Advisory: Measles Outbreak and Exposure Sites
The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has issued an urgent health advisory regarding the ongoing community spread of measles within the Valley. Health officials have confirmed multiple cases involving both residents and visitors, prompting a widespread call for vaccination and symptom monitoring. As of Monday, February 2, 2026, residents who visited specific public locations in the Gilbert area during mid-January are advised that their window for symptom onset is nearing its conclusion. Specifically, individuals who were at the Target located at 1515 E. Warner Rd. on January 13 must monitor for symptoms through February 3, 2026. Those at Sam’s Club or EOS Fitness in Gilbert on January 15 should continue monitoring through February 5, 2026.
Symptoms of measles include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, typically followed by a blotchy red rash. Residents experiencing these symptoms are instructed to contact their healthcare provider by phone before arriving at any medical facility to prevent further exposure to other patients.
City Council and Planning Meeting Schedule
The City of Phoenix has updated its public meeting calendar for Monday, February 2, 2026. Residents interested in urban development and local governance should note the following sessions and cancellations:
- Site Plan Review Team: A formal review for the project located at 18850 North 56th Street is scheduled for 3:00 PM. This meeting focuses on technical requirements and infrastructure planning for the site.
- Encanto Village Planning Committee: The committee will convene at 6:00 PM to discuss local zoning and community character initiatives.

Transit and Infrastructure Updates
Following a pivotal City Council vote on January 27, the City of Phoenix and Valley Metro have officially shifted focus regarding high-capacity transit in West Phoenix. The previously proposed Capitol Extension (CAPEX) project has been deprioritized in favor of advancing planning for the West Phoenix corridor along Indian School Road. Community engagement sessions for this new transit direction are expected to begin later this month. Additionally, motorists are reminded that widening work on the Loop 101 Pima Freeway between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive is entering its final stages, with substantial completion anticipated in the coming weeks.
Public Safety Notice: Photo Enforcement Return
The Phoenix Police Department reminds residents that photo safety cameras are scheduled to return to city streets starting February 23, 2026. A total of 17 speed-monitoring cameras will be deployed at high-collision intersections. Official maps of the camera locations will be released to the public later this week to ensure transparency and encourage speed compliance.
