Public Service Announcement: Presidents Day Holiday Service Schedule

The City of Phoenix has released the official service schedule for the upcoming Presidents Day holiday on Monday, February 16, 2026. While City Hall and other administrative offices will be closed, essential services will maintain specific operating hours through the holiday weekend.

  • Trash and Recycling Collection: There will be no change to the residential curbside collection schedule. Residents whose regularly scheduled collection day falls on Monday should place their bins out as usual. However, the 27th Avenue and North Gateway transfer stations will be closed on Monday, February 16.
  • Public Libraries and Museums: All Phoenix Public Library locations and the S’edav Va’aki Museum will be closed in observance of the holiday on Monday. Digital resources and book drops will remain available 24/7.
  • Community Centers and Parks: City of Phoenix community centers will be closed on Monday. While city parks and trails will remain open for regular hours, the city’s "Take a Hike. Do it Right." safety guidelines remain in effect for all trail users.
  • Public Transit: Valley Metro bus and light rail services will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Monday. Note that there will be no Express or RAPID bus service. Transit centers at Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope, and Central Station will be closed.
  • Parking Enforcement: Residents and visitors are reminded that all city parking meters are enforced from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays.

Weekend Traffic Advisory: Loop 101 Widening Project

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has issued a major traffic alert for Saturday, February 14, 2026. As part of ongoing freeway improvement work, significant closures are scheduled in the Northwest Valley.

  • Full Freeway Closure: Eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) will be closed between 51st Avenue and Interstate 17. This closure began Friday night and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. Sunday, February 15.
  • Ramp Access: Eastbound on-ramps at 75th, 67th, and 59th avenues are currently closed.
  • Detour Information: Motorists are advised to exit the eastbound Loop 101 prior to the closure and utilize Union Hills Drive or Bell Road to bypass construction and reconnect with I-17.

Public Safety Notice: Reintroduction of Photo Enforcement

As of late January 2026, the Phoenix Police Department and Street Transportation Department have officially reactivated photo safety cameras at designated high-traffic intersections. These systems monitor red-light violations and speed to improve roadway safety. Motorists are urged to remain vigilant and observe all posted traffic signals and speed limits citywide.

Public Works: Residential Rate Adjustment Proposal

The Public Works Department has issued a formal notice regarding a proposed adjustment to monthly residential solid waste rates. Following an update on February 10, 2026, the department is seeking to stabilize funding for long-term waste diversion and the city's "Zero Waste by 2050" goal. Residents are encouraged to review the proposal and submit comments via the myPHX311 portal before the next formal review session.
