Korda leads at halfway point after 7-under 65 in tougher afternoon conditions

Nelly Korda moved into sole possession of the lead at the Ford Championship in the Phoenix area on Friday, March 27, 2026, posting a 7-under 65 at Whirlwind Golf Club to reach 16-under 128 through two rounds. The total is the lowest 36-hole score of her LPGA Tour career and gives her a two-shot advantage entering the weekend.

With scoring conditions firmer later in the day on the Cattail Course, Korda produced a round defined by sustained birdie opportunities and limited damage when she missed. She did leave shots on the course late, including a missed 2-foot birdie putt on the par-5 17th that would have extended her cushion.

Kim remains closest challenger after opening 61, then recovering to 69

Hyo Joo Kim sits second at 14-under after following her opening-round 61 with a 69 that included early mistakes but stabilized as the round progressed. Korda and Kim are set to play together again on Saturday, continuing a pairing that has carried over from last week’s event, where Kim defeated Korda at the Founders Cup.

Their proximity on leaderboards has been a defining early-season storyline. Korda opened the year with a victory in Florida at the season-opening Tournament of Champions, which was reduced to 54 holes because of severe wind and cold. She then finished runner-up to Kim at the Founders Cup before arriving in Arizona.

Lydia Ko slips back after opening 60 as afternoon greens firm up

Lydia Ko, who opened with a 60 in morning conditions, fell into a tie for third after a second-round 71 left her three shots off the lead. Ko’s second round featured solid ball-striking but fewer converted chances on firmer greens, a contrast to the putts that dropped during her opening round.

Ko is tied at 13-under with Jenny Bae, who shot 65, and Minami Katsu, who shot 66. Their position keeps a tight group within striking distance if scoring compresses over the final 36 holes.

Cut line reaches 5-under as scoring remains aggressive

Strong scoring across the field pushed the cut to 5-under 135. Among those missing the weekend were Miyu Yamashita and Lexi Thompson, who was making her first start of the season.

  • Leader: Nelly Korda, 16-under 128 (two rounds)
  • Second: Hyo Joo Kim, 14-under
  • Tied third: Lydia Ko, Jenny Bae, Minami Katsu, 13-under

“I have left a couple shots out there at the end, but I'm playing really solid golf.”

Korda will take her two-shot lead into Saturday’s third round with the tournament’s strongest two-day performance as the benchmark, while Kim and a compact chasing group look to apply pressure as conditions continue to firm up.
