Nancy Guthrie Disappearance Enters Fourth Week as Investigators Reassess Leads, Evidence and Public Tip Rewards

Case status at day 24

Twenty-four days after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, investigators say her whereabouts remain unknown and no suspect has been publicly identified as being in custody in connection with her disappearance.

Authorities have continued to characterize the matter as a criminal investigation, citing physical and digital indicators suggesting she did not leave voluntarily. Early in the case, her residence was treated as a crime scene while investigators collected evidence and canvassed the surrounding neighborhood.

Timeline: what investigators have said happened

Officials have outlined a sequence of events spanning the night she was last seen and the following morning:

  • Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026: Guthrie was dropped off at home at about 9:48 p.m., and her garage door was recorded closing at about 9:50 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026: A doorbell camera at the home disconnected at about 1:47 a.m.; system data later registered activity at about 2:12 a.m., though investigators initially said video was not immediately available; a pacemaker-related phone application later showed a disconnection at about 2:28 a.m.
  • Later that morning: relatives went to the home after she did not appear as expected for a church-related livestream routine, and a 911 call reporting her missing was placed at about 12:03 p.m.; deputies arrived shortly after.

Investigators have also said blood found at the home was forensically confirmed to match Guthrie.

Digital evidence and imagery released

In the second week of the investigation, federal authorities released still images and short video segments showing a masked individual outside the home in the early-morning window tied to the disappearance. The person shown appeared to be wearing gloves and carrying a backpack while handling or obstructing the front-door camera area.

Ransom claims, impersonation, and enforcement actions

Reports of ransom demands have circulated since the first week of the investigation, including claims that payment was sought using cryptocurrency and that deadlines were included. Investigators have warned that some contacts can be fraudulent and have confirmed at least one enforcement action involving an alleged impersonation attempt tied to a false ransom demand.

Investigators have repeatedly urged the public to treat any purported communications with caution and to route potential information through official tip channels.

Reward funding and what investigators are asking for

Authorities have increased reward funding intended to generate tips leading to an arrest, including an amount publicly announced through a local crime-tip program augmented by additional contributions. Investigators have continued to ask residents and businesses in the area to submit potentially relevant doorbell-camera video, photographs, and other records that could help establish movements around the neighborhood overnight.

What remains unresolved

As day 24 closes, officials have not publicly detailed a motive, named a suspect, or disclosed conclusive findings about where Guthrie was taken. The investigation remains active, with multiple agencies involved and ongoing review of physical evidence, surveillance material, and public tips.
