Victim identified after weeks in hospital

A 58-year-old woman who used a wheelchair has died weeks after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a downtown Las Vegas street, police and the county coroner’s office said. The woman was identified as Valerie Pittman, and her death was ruled the result of blunt force injuries sustained in the crash.

The collision occurred on July 27, 2025, shortly after 4 a.m., at the intersection of Bonanza Road and City Parkway. Police later confirmed they were notified that Pittman died at University Medical Center.

What police say happened at Bonanza Road and City Parkway

Investigators said a Nissan Pathfinder—described as a model year range consistent with 2013 to 2017—was traveling westbound on Bonanza Road as it approached City Parkway. At the same time, Pittman was in a marked crosswalk, in her wheelchair, and pushing a shopping cart as she crossed Bonanza Road.

Police said the pedestrian signal was displaying a “don’t walk” indication at the time of the impact. The right front portion of the vehicle struck Pittman, throwing her onto the roadway, investigators said.

  • Time and location: just after 4 a.m., July 27, 2025; Bonanza Road and City Parkway.

  • Vehicle description: Nissan Pathfinder (model years described as 2013–2017).

  • Crosswalk conditions: marked crosswalk; pedestrian signal reportedly showed “don’t walk.”

Driver fled; case remains under investigation

Police said the driver did not stop and left the scene, continuing westbound on Bonanza Road and then turning northbound onto Martin Luther King Boulevard. The crash remains under investigation by the department’s Collision Investigation Section.

Police described the crash as a hit-and-run and said the driver fled without stopping.

Fatality count context and next investigative steps

Authorities said Pittman’s death became the 105th traffic-related fatality within the department’s jurisdiction in 2025. Investigators have not publicly announced an arrest in connection with the collision, and no additional details were released on whether a suspect vehicle has been located.

In cases involving a pedestrian in a crosswalk and a driver who leaves the scene, investigators typically focus on reconstructing vehicle speed and movement, reviewing any available camera footage, and canvassing for witnesses and vehicle damage consistent with the reported point of impact. Police have indicated the investigation is ongoing.
