Lane Restrictions on I-17 and Major Ramp Closure at Loop 101/202 Interchange

I-17 and Loop 303 Construction Impacting North Phoenix
Commuters in the North Valley should prepare for significant delays today as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) begins work on the Loop 303 Improvement Project. Interstate 17 is currently narrowed to two or three lanes in both directions between Dixileta Drive and Dove Valley Road. These restrictions went into effect early this morning and are expected to remain in place through 2 a.m. Sunday.
Specific ramp closures will also affect Saturday travel. The southbound I-17 on-ramp at Dove Valley Road and the southbound off-ramp at Loop 303 (Sonoran Desert Drive) are closed until 1 p.m. this afternoon. Additionally, the northbound I-17 off-ramp at Loop 303 will close at noon today and remain shut until early Sunday morning. Drivers are advised to use the Dove Valley Road interchange and 43rd Avenue as primary detour routes.
Major Long-Term Ramp Closure at Loop 101 and Loop 202
In the East Valley, a significant long-term restriction has begun at the interchange of the Price and Santan freeways. The primary ramp connecting southbound Loop 101 to eastbound Loop 202 in Chandler is closed for a two-week pavement replacement project. While the HOV lane ramp remains open for carpools, other drivers should exit at Chandler Boulevard or use Price Road to access eastbound Loop 202.
Furthermore, eastbound Loop 202 is narrowed to only two lanes between Price Road and Arizona Avenue throughout the weekend. The eastbound on-ramp at Arizona Avenue is also closed, so motorists should plan for merging delays in the Chandler and Gilbert areas.
Local Street Restrictions and Downtown Projects
Within the City of Phoenix, several private development and utility projects are impacting surface street traffic today:
- Roosevelt Street: Partial closures are in effect between 16th Street and the surrounding blocks for ongoing private development work.
- 107th Avenue and Camelback Road: Expect lane restrictions at this intersection through the end of the month.
- 16th Street and Buckeye Road: Utility work has necessitated partial lane closures, which may slow traffic heading toward the airport area.
Valley Metro Light Rail and Transit Updates
Public transit users can enjoy full service on the expanded light rail system, which now includes the Northwest Extension to Metrocenter and the South Central Extension to Baseline Road. Both lines are operating on their standard Saturday schedules. With the completion of the I-10 Broadway Curve project last year, regional bus bridges and previous construction-related transit delays in the Tempe area have been resolved, providing a smoother experience for those traveling between the East Valley and Downtown Phoenix.
