City Council Schedule and Subcommittee Cancellations

The City of Phoenix has released updated scheduling for official proceedings held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Residents and stakeholders should note that the Transportation, Infrastructure, and Planning (TIP) Subcommittee meeting, originally scheduled for 10:00 a.m. today, has been officially cancelled. No alternate date has been announced at this time.

The City Council will proceed with its scheduled Formal Meeting this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 200 W. Jefferson St. The council is expected to take official action on various ordinances and resolutions. For those unable to attend in person, the session will be broadcast live via PHXTV and the city's official website. Public comments for specific agenda items can be submitted through the city's electronic comment system up to two hours prior to the meeting start time.

Road Restrictions and Transportation Projects

The Street Transportation Department has announced new traffic restrictions beginning today, January 21, 2026, to accommodate essential infrastructure improvements:

  • 16th St & Buckeye Rd: A partial street closure is in effect starting today for street transportation work. This restriction is projected to remain in place through February 18, 2026. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid peak-hour delays.
  • Loop 303 Expansion: The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is initiating preliminary work for the widening of Loop 303 between I-17 and 51st Avenue. Funded by Proposition 479, this project includes the construction of direct freeway-to-freeway ramps at the I-17 interchange.

Health and Community Wellness Advisories

The Phoenix Office of Public Health and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) have maintained several active advisories for the winter season. ADHS continues to operate under a standing order for the 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccines, ensuring availability for all eligible residents. Furthermore, the city remains in observance of Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Public service announcements this week focus on the "See Something, Say Something" initiative, encouraging community members to report suspicious behavior at city facilities to on-site law enforcement or by calling 911.

Administrative and Regional Services

Effective this week, the City of Phoenix has appointed new leadership in key departments. Ilse Borquez has assumed the role of Interim Government Relations Director, while Martin Whitfield has begun his tenure as the Interim Parks and Recreation Director. Additionally, the Arizona Department of Revenue reminds business owners that December transaction privilege tax (TPT) returns are due soon, with the electronic filing deadline set for January 30, 2026.
